WAYLON REMEMBERED. . .
"WHEN I FIRST STARTED PERFORMING; I KNEW THAT FROM "DAY ONE" THE AUDIENCE COMES FIRST. . .WHEN YOU CAN TRULY "ENTERTAIN" AN AUDIENCE; YOU HAVE A "HAPPY" AUDIENCE. . .THEY WILL GO HOME FEELING SATISFIED FROM YOUR PERFORMANCE. THEY WILL BUY YOUR CDs. . .AND THEY WILL WANT A RETURN ENGAGEMENT.
THEY BECOME YOUR FRIENDS. . .I PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO WHAT MAKES AN AUDIENCE HAPPY. IT TAKES FAR MORE THAN HAVING A GREAT VOICE OR MASTERING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. YOU HAVE TO REACH OUT AND MAKE EVERY INDIVIDUAL IN THE AUDIENCE THINK THAT YOU'RE SINGING JUST FOR THEM. , ,YOUR SONG MUST MAKE THEM HAPPY, MAKE THEM SAD, BUT ABOVE ALL; IT MUST MAKE THEM "FEEL GOOD".
A LARGE PART OF THIS "FEEL GOOD", IS PLAYING AND SINGING "THEIR SONG". JUST SO HAPPENS; THE WAYLON JENNINGS SONGS THAT THEY HEARD ON THE RADIO MADE THEM "FEEL GOOD". I FOUND OUT EARLY ON THAT I COULD SING HIS SONGS. AND. . .I HAVE BEEN TOLD I BEAR A STRONG RESEMBLANCE TO THE MAN. THAT, IN ITSELF; HAS BROUGHT ON "MORE THAN SEVERAL" INSTANCES OF "MISTAKEN IDENTITY". . .(CHICAGO, OMAHA, DENVER, DALLAS, CHEYENNE, NASHVILLE, AND A "LOT" MORE) THERE ARE SOME INTERESTING STORIES INVOLVED HERE. REMIND ME TO TELL YOU SOMETIME. BUT WAIT UNTIL THE "STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS" RUNS OUT. . .FOLKS IN THE AUDIENCE LIKED IT. AND THAT'S WHAT EVERY ENTERTAINER SHOULD NEVER FORGET:
"MAKE YOUR AUDIENCE HAPPY". . .
FOR A LOT OF YEARS; WAYLON'S SONGS HAVE DONE JUST THAT. NOW THAT HE IS GONE; I DO MY BEST TO KEEP HIS MEMORY ALIVE; SIMPLY BY SINGING HIS SONG. . .WITH EVERY YEAR GONE BY, WITH EVERY TOWN I'M IN, WITH EVERY AUDIENCE I SING TO; I PROUDLY SING THE SONGS THAT MADE SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE WAYLON JENNINGS.
WE MISS YOU, "HOSS".
